There are six runes, which can be written in two styles, with being or doing energy. Each rune is associated with an element: self, soul, water, fire, earth, or air. Except for the self runes which have only one orientation, each rune can be read in four orientations, for a total of 42 archetypes.
Every rune orientation represents a specific archetype and is associated with a word, an affirmation, and an invitation, as well as a crystal and a yes or no answer. The runes are further categorized through eight domains, which guide the overall characteristics of the archetype.
To use the runes for divination choose a layout and draw the runes in order. Read the orientation of the rune from the point of view of the person the reading is for, regardless of who draws them. If you create your own layout, it is recommended to use no more than four runes per reading. If it is a complicated question, return the runes and draw again for additional clarity.
Use this divination method as a tool to check in with yourself about what you truly desire and believe. The archetypes that appear are ones for you to embrace or recognize exist in your life. The affirmations are grounded in emotional intelligence and personal responsibility. The invitations are guides to growth. Let them move you according to when they appear in your reading and in what context.
When seeking "yes" or "no" answers, pay attention to the feeling of relief or disappointment you experience when the answer is revealed. Where are those feelings rooted? As in all things, the result you desire will only come if you commit to it. Use the cards to clarify your vision, and guide your choices. Don't succumb to the easy path of expecting miracles from fortune telling. That's not what Ama's runes are for.
The crystals which are associated with each rune may be used as a physical talisman and reminder when you really want to call in an archetype or way of being. You don't need the most perfect specimen, simply one with which you connect. Trust your intuition.
When writing with the runes, keep it simple. There are 21 English phonemes directly represented with these runes. The remaining 5 phonemes (C, Q, X, Y, Z) can be substituted phonetically, as described below. Phonetic spelling is generally encouraged.
C = K / S
Q = KW
X = KS
Y = I
Z = TS
For further simplicity, use present tense. Instead of modifying nouns into adjectives or adverbs, use the noun directly. Line breaks should be used to indicate new sentences. They/them pronouns are recommended.
